Product Description

Low sulfur carbon raiser is an additive used in steel manufacturing processes. Its primary purpose is to gradually introduce carbon into steel while minimizing impurities like sulfur. Containing a certain amount of carbon-based substances, it not only effectively increases the carbon content of steel but also improves its microstructure, enhancing mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Why Low Sulfur?

Sulfur is a harmful element in steel, causing hot brittleness, reducing toughness and ductility, and increasing the risk of porosity and cracks in castings.
Therefore, low-sulfur carbon additives must be used in the following scenarios: ductile iron, high-strength gray iron, premium alloy steel, special steel, and high-standard castings.

Applications

Cast Iron Industry

1. Ductile Iron
Used in the production of automotive crankshafts, wheel hubs, transmission housings, wind turbine castings, and ductile iron pipe fittings.
In these applications, excessively high sulfur levels can impair the effectiveness of spheroidizing agents, preventing graphite from forming into spheres and causing the castings to become porous and crack. Low-sulfur carbon-increasing agents ensure the formation of spheroidal graphite.
2. Gray Cast Iron
Machine tool beds, motor housings, construction machinery counterweights, and agricultural machinery castings
Its function is to stabilize the carbon equivalent of molten iron, refine the graphite structure, improve machinability, and prevent porosity and shrinkage defects caused by high sulfur content.
3. High-End Precision Castings
Hydraulic valve bodies, engine blocks and cylinder heads, and rail transit castings
By strictly controlling sulfur impurities, the density and fatigue strength of castings are ensured.

Steelmaking Industry

1. Mild Carbon Steel, High-Quality Carbon Structural Steel
Final carbon addition during electric furnace and converter steelmaking to adjust the carbon content of molten steel; low sulfur content prevents cold and hot brittleness in steel, enhancing its ductility and weldability.
2. Alloy Steel, Special Steel
Stainless steel, die steel, bearing steel, spring steel, and pipeline steel. These steels require strict limits on sulfur impurities; low-sulfur carbon-increasing agents eliminate inclusions and enhance the steel's corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and fatigue life.
3. Continuous-cast steel billets
Low-sulfur carbon-increasing agents help reduce sulfide inclusions in steel, prevent cracks and surface defects in continuous-cast billets, and improve yield rates.
